A family of three adults and six children were displaced after a fire broke out at their home in Northwest Jacksonville Friday morning.
The Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department responded to a call about the fire in the 4700 block of Hatteras Road around 8 a.m. JFRD said heavy fire and smoke was seen from the back of the house.
Fire crews were able to control the fire and extinguish it. After, JFRD requested an investigator.
Family told First Coast News that no one was inside the bedroom, where the fire is believed to have started and that no one was injured. The family did lose a cat.
"Now we have to figure out where we're going to place them and not interrupt their mindset of school," the homeowner said.
At this time, crews do not know what caused the fire.
The Red Cross was requested to assist the three adults and six children.
