Son of slain Jacksonville woman arrested in Delaware after multi-state chase

Records show the man's Jacksonville residence is 2199 Mossbrook Ct., the same address 56-year-old Voncile Heath was found dead in a pool of blood Tuesday morning.

A 26-year-old from Jacksonville was arrested Tuesday after a high-speed chase in a stolen car crossed state lines from Maryland, police say. Police confirm he is the son of Voncile Heath who was found dead in a pool of her own blood in a home in Jacksonville earlier this week.

Marcus Heath, 26, of Jacksonville, Florida was on I-95 northbound at 4:20 p.m., when Maryland State Police alerted Delaware authorities he was driving a stolen 2006 Mercedes Benz with Florida tags into Delaware, said Master Cpl. Michael Austin of Delaware State Police.

Records show Marcus Heath's Jacksonville residence is 2199 Mossbrook Ct., the same address 56-year-old Voncile Heath was found dead in a pool of blood Tuesday morning.

A Maryland State Trooper saw the car in Cecil County, Maryland at 4:40 p.m., and turned on his emergency lights to pull Heath over, but Heath refused to stop, Austin said.

The suspect was last seen by the Maryland trooper on I-95 north in the area of the Delaware House service plaza, Austin said.

Then a resident in the 400 block of Rosewood Drive in Ogletown called in an unoccupied, silver Mercedes Benz with Florida tags that was parked in their driveway, at 6:15 p.m. Austin said. The caller said they did not recognize the car, and New Castle County Police and state troopers responded to the area.

Police began searching the surrounding area for Heath when a trooper found someone matching his description in the area of Christiana Road (Del. Rt. 273) and McIntosh Plaza, Austin said.

The trooper approached Heath, who tried to run, and police chased him and arrested him without incident, Austin said. There he is being held as an out-of-state fugitive.
