Two people were transported to a local hospital Saturday morning after becoming distressed while at Jacksonville Beach, according to the Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department.
Firefighters believe that the individuals may have been competing in an event going on at the beach when they became distressed.
Jacksonville Beach lifeguards assisted the swimmers at the lifeguard station after one of the swimmers exited the water and passed out near the station, JFRD said.
Lifeguards rendered aid to that swimmer until firefighters arrived took that person along with another individual to a local hospital.
Firefighters believe that the person may have had a medical episode which led to them needing aid, JFRD said.
The person that passed out was transported to the hospital in extremely critical condition and the other individual was in stable condition, according to lifeguards.
The identities of the individuals have not been released.
