ORCHARD PARK, New York — Jacksonville came into Sunday's contest on a six-game losing streak. Buffalo came into the game on a four-game losing streak. Something had to give.
Instead, the Jaguars gave the game to the Bills.
26 total penalties and an on-field melee highlighted the Jags' 24-21 loss to the Bills. With the loss, Jacksonville falls to 3-8 on the year; Buffalo improves to 4-7.
Behind Leonard Fournette, the Jaguars offense was able to comeback from a 14-0, first quarter deficit. Fournette scored two, second-quarter touchdowns, and amassed 108 total yards.
However, an on-field brawl broke out following Donte Moncrief's third-quarter, 30-yard catch to the Bills' 1-yard line. Fournette, who was not on the field at the time, left the Jaguars' bench and threw a punch at Buffalo's Shaq Lawson. Both players were immediately ejected from the game. The Jaguars could not convert the red-zone opportunity, and Josh Lambo missed the would-be, go-ahead field goal.
Fournette took to Twitter after the game to apologize for his actions.
That was the last the offense was heard from today. The Jaguars managed just one first down on their next three drives, which also saw Blake Bortles' second interception of the day.
The defense surrendered 10 fourth quarter points to the Bills, and the offense could never recover. Bills' rookie quarterback Josh Allen led the way for Buffalo with 160 yards passing and 99 rushing yards, including the go-ahead touchdown.
After holding the Steelers scoreless in last week's first half, the Jaguars defense allowed 327 yards Sunday to the Bills, the second-worst scoring offense in the NFL.
The Jaguars host the Colts (5-5) Sunday at 1 p.m.
