Maddy Wilford, one of the students who was injured in this week's deadly shooting at Stoneman Douglas High in Broward County previously went to school in Plantation Oaks Elementary in Clay County, a district spokesperson said.
"My prayers go out to M Wilford and family, who is a former student in Clay County District Schools and survived yesterday's tragic event,” tweeted superintendent Addison Davis.
A shooting inside Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School left 17 people dead and over a dozen injured, including Wilford. Police arrested former student Nikolas Cruz and charged him with murder.
The most recent post from a teacher's Facebook page says Wilford was shot several times and survived two surgeries. A third is scheduled for tomorrow, the teacher’s Facebook post said.
“Be strong and brave, Maddie,” reads a message from a donor on the GoFundMe page that raised over $22,000 in one day for Wilford.
Donations to support “Missy and Maddy,” will help the teenager and her mother on what hopefully turns out to be a road to recovery.
