The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office announced the arrest of a man in connection with the murder of 25-year-old Christopher Michael Blessett on Thursday.
During a press conference, JSO said they arrested 38-year-old Derrick "Purple" Dewayne Lewis for reportedly shooting Blessett multiple times in the 1100 block of Mohawk Street and leaving him there on Tuesday. They said the two got into an argument prior to the shooting. Blessett was transported to the hospital where he later died.
Lewis has been arrested before. First Coast News obtained his criminal history and found that he faced a drug charge in 2013, fraud, assault and theft charges in 2014 and domestic battery charge in 2015.
He is being held on a $500,000 bond.
