One dead, another injured in Grand Park double shooting

An 18-year-old is dead and a man is recovering in the hospital after a double shooting in the Grand Park area Friday night.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Police are searching for multiple suspects after a double shooting in Grand Park Friday night left an 18-year-old man dead and another man recovering from multiple gunshot wounds.

A close family friend told First Coast News the deceased victim is 18-year-old Malik Brown, a former student and football player at Robert E. Lee High School. Friends on social media are saying Brown is also a football player for the Warner University Royals in Lake Wales, Fla. A Malik Brown is listed as a freshman on their Fall 2019 roster.

Just after 8:30 p.m., the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office responded to two different ShotSpotter alerts at an apartment complex on the 2100 block of W. 12th Street around 8:32 p.m.

When officers arrived, they found two victims with gunshot wounds. One victim, an 18-year-old man, was pronounced dead at the scene. A man believed to be between the ages of 25 and 28 years old was taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

JSO says the double shooting appears to be the result of a robbery, based upon a preliminary investigation.

Investigators say the shooting happened on a sidewalk area in the complex, near the parking lot. According to JSO, no witnesses were found in the area.

The surviving victim, who was not named, was cooperating with police as of Friday night. JSO says the relationship between the victims unknown.

A vehicle belonging to one of the victims was taken from the scene by JSO for processing, although officers say the victims were not inside when the shooting happened.

More than six rounds were discharged in total. Investigators also believe there are multiple suspects and another vehicle involved.

Police plan to release information about the other vehicle involved as early as Saturday. JSO did not give information about any suspects.
